Update from our Chair: establishing the Danes Moss Trust charitable organisation
In our January newsletter I told you about the successful registration of the Danes Moss Trust charity. I want to let you know more about this and how it supports our vision for Danes Moss.
The Danes Moss Trust has been established to support the restoration and conservation of the Danes Moss peatlands for current and future generations to enjoy, and to maintain and enhance the richly diverse wildlife on the site. Our Future Vision has been created in collaboration with local and national organisations to show how Danes Moss can be a community asset that will strengthen nature conservation and community well-being in Macclesfield and the wider area.
The decision to create the Danes Moss Trust was based on the growth over the last three years of the community movement to protect the precious peatlands that lie to the south of Macclesfield. Your support is evident by the 28,000 people who have signed our petition and the £40,000 raised so far to support the Save Danes Moss campaign. It is also built on our activity over the last year running educational events for people of all ages (read more about this here – Educational Resource Blog) and the high-profile support we have attracted for this work:
"At this point, we've got to fight for every scrap of nature we have left. And Danes Moss is well worth the fight."
Chris Packham, TV wildlife presenter and conservationist
Establishing the Danes Moss Trust will enable us to take further action by raising awareness, supporting education and research, creating partnerships with other groups and organisations, fundraising and providing challenge on the protection, restoration and management of peatland and safeguarding its biodiversity.
"I'm proud to support the work of the Danes Moss Trust and the 'Save Danes Moss' campaign. Peatlands are so important and we need to do all we can to restore and preserve them for future generations."
Tim Roca, MP for Macclesfield
The Danes Moss Trust will continue the Save Danes Moss campaign which aims to oppose development plans on the site of Danes Moss North and its surroundings. All donations to the fundraiser for Save Danes Moss to date and in future will continue to be used solely for the purposes of our legal fund, our running costs and the future restoration of the site.
Along with all our trustees and those working closely with us I am looking forward to this next chapter. We will be bringing you more information on our plans over the coming months. In the meantime please do get in touch if you would like to help us with this valuable work.

Read: our response to Cheshire East Council’s Interim Housing Strategy Save Danes Moss has had a number of queries about the CEC consultation on the draft Interim Housing Strategy 2025-2028. This is an early step before the star of the Local Plan Strategy consultation. Therefore to help, we have put together some advice to help if you wanted to participate. Feel free to edit and modify to what fits best with your views. Submissions needed by 25 February 2025. Read more here
Get involved: our 100th Save Danes Moss placard was put up – can you help us make more? This month we put up this beautiful placard to mark our 100th Save Danes Moss placard.
